Which metadata fields does this tool show and remove?
The eight standard PDF document-information fields: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, Creation Date, and Modification Date. Creator is usually the program the document was written in; Producer is the program that generated the PDF itself.
Does removing metadata make my PDF anonymous?
No, and it would be wrong to promise that. This tool removes the eight standard document-information fields listed above — that is exactly what it does and no more. A PDF can carry identifying information elsewhere: XMP metadata streams, form field values, annotations and comments, embedded or attached files, layer and bookmark names, and of course any name or detail printed on the pages themselves. Treat this as removing the obvious document properties, not as anonymising a file.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is opened, read, and re-saved by your own browser, and is never sent to a server. That is also why very large files are limited: everything has to fit in your browser memory.
Does this change my original file or its pages?
No. The original stays untouched on your device and a new PDF is produced for you to download. Only the document-information fields are touched — every page, and all page content, is carried through unchanged.
Why does one of the dates say "Set, but unreadable"?
Some PDFs store a date in a format that cannot be parsed into a real calendar date. Rather than crash, or pretend the field is empty when it is not, the tool tells you the field is set but cannot be displayed. Clearing metadata removes it like any other field; it simply cannot be shown or edited as a date.
What happens with a password-protected PDF?
It is rejected with a clear message rather than partially processed. This tool cannot ask for or apply a password, so an encrypted PDF cannot be opened — remove the password in whatever app created it first.
Can I edit the metadata instead of deleting it?
Yes. Choose "Edit metadata", change any field, and apply — useful for setting a proper Title and Author before publishing a document. Leaving a field empty clears it, so you can edit and clean in a single step.
