Common questions
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere to add the watermark?
No. The PDF is opened, stamped, and re-saved by your own browser — the file is never sent to a server. That's also why very large documents are limited: everything has to fit in your browser's memory.
Does this change my original file?
No. The original stays untouched on your device; the tool produces a new, separate PDF to download. If you apply a watermark again with different settings, it re-stamps the original rather than layering onto the previous result.
Can I watermark only some pages instead of the whole document?
Yes — switch Pages to "Selected pages" and enter a range like 1-3,5,8-10. Pages you leave out are copied through completely unchanged.
Can the watermark be removed from the PDF afterwards?
Treat it as visible labelling, not security. The watermark is drawn as real text in the page's content, so it isn't trivially deleted — but anyone with a full PDF editor can remove or edit it. It doesn't encrypt, lock, or otherwise protect the document.
Which characters can the watermark text use?
It uses the PDF format's built-in Helvetica font, which covers Latin letters, numbers, and common punctuation. Text in Arabic, Chinese, or emoji can't be encoded by that font, so the tool reports a clear message instead of producing a PDF with missing glyphs.
What happens with a password-protected PDF?
It's rejected with a clear message rather than partially processed. This tool has no way to ask for or apply a password, so an encrypted PDF can't be opened — remove the password in whatever app created it first.
