Common questions

What grading scale does this use?

The standard US unweighted 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, down to F=0.0). Many schools use exactly this scale, but grading policies vary — some don't use plus/minus, and some use a weighted scale that gives extra points for AP/Honors courses. If your school uses a different scale, treat this as a close estimate rather than your official GPA.

How is GPA actually calculated?

It's a weighted average of grade points by credit hours: multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours. A 4-credit A and a 1-credit A count very differently toward your GPA — this is why credit hours matter, not just the letter grades themselves.

What does "include a previous cumulative GPA" do?

It folds your existing GPA and credit hours into the calculation as if they were one more course — the standard way schools calculate a new cumulative GPA after adding a term's courses to your prior transcript.

Does this calculate a weighted GPA for AP or Honors classes?

No — this calculates a standard unweighted 4.0 GPA. Weighted scales vary a lot by school (how many extra points, which courses qualify), so we don't guess at your school's specific policy here.
